kambakht_ishq
Cast: Akshay Kumar, Kareena Kapoor, Vindu Dara Singh, Aftab Shivdasani, Amrita Arora, Jaaved Jafferi, Boman Irani, Kirron Kher, Sylvester Stallone, Denise Richards, Brandon Routh
Director: Sabbir Khan

Weeks ago when Akshay Kumar, the hero of Kambakkht Ishq had publicly announced that “Kambakkht Ishq was an illogical film and one can keep discussions around logic at home… There is no gimmickry involved,” it dropped expectations 3 notches. The going is also never good when you have an abusive title. Be prepared for the worst.

Its the battle of the sexes between Viraj Shergill (Akshay Kumar), a Hollywood stuntman and Simrita Raia (Kareena) super model, that accounts for her pouty lips. Since its set in the new times, the director decided to do away with soft romance, niceties and simply being polite.

He is a bachelor, bedding a female a day, and she hates men convinced they’re only interested in women for sex. Not that Akshay’s dialogues help - “Women are good for 2 things …” They clash by calling each other dog, bitch and every other demeaning name. You’ll be excused if you think they are enemies - actually that’s romance in Hollywood. While they are at it, jokes of all parts of the human anatomy are thrown in: Akshay’s butt examination by a fat Black woman. Viagra mixed in protein shakes. You get it by now.

Simrita who is actually a student surgeon, accidently leaves her musical watch inside Viraj’s body while performing surgery, which incidently chants Mangalam every hour. Mortified that she could be sued for her negligence, she must find a way to get him back on the operation table. So the supermodel-cum surgeon seductively sings (btw she’s a singer too) Bebo main bebo and tries to get him back on the table.

The movie unravels by now. Any one interested in the much touted Hollywood stars Stallone and Denise, well sad but true, they do exactly what our stars do in their movies - 2 minute roles. The whole support cast has been reduced to negligible roles and is a sheer waste of talent.

Forget the logic in the bedroom part, never mind the Dada Kondke style of humour, the movie is offensive. Calling human beings “dog” and “bitch” repeatedly, and other profanities and references to sex, virginity and homosexuality, are simpy not funny.

Akshay Kumar physically abuses female characters - including one in which he slaps Amrita Arora across her face four times. Do real men raise their hands on women?

Our very own He-man relies on broad physical comedy to get laughs, but he’s running out of steam. The loud, coarse style of humor is getting repetitive and over bearing. One of the most entertaining scenes in the film is the one in which he’s discovered to his horror who will be performing surgery on him. Muttering and cursing her as the anesthesia hits, that’s funny.

When will our producers get it into their fat heads that not all the Jimmy Choos, Cartiers, Manish Malhotras, Vercaces can help make a good movie!

Gossip Bollywood Rating: 1 / 5 (Poor) Its just not watchable.

Shahid Kapoor along with the director Vishal Bhardwaj has been on a promotion spree by visiting all the leading radio station of Mumbai to promote their upcoming movie Kaminey.

But in case you were looking for the heroine of the movie, you would have to look harder as Priyanka Chopra is missing from all promotional activity. Shahid is promoting Kaminey minus Priyanka. It sure seems that Priyanka Chopra is avoiding the promotional events of her upcoming movie Kaminey to avoid being seen with Shahid Kapoor or to avoid answering any embarassing questions.

saifSaif Ali Khan has been criticised for his dancing talent number of times. He has often disappointed the audience while dancing in movies or stage shows. He finally admitted he has two left feet and plans to do something about it.

“I guess I was in denial,” Saif admits sheepishly. “But after seeing how well Kareena dances and how clumsily I managed some steps for Love Aaj Kal, I made up my mind that I needed to learn the Bollywood dancing.”

After goofing up his dance steps repeatedly for an item number for his first home production, Saif has finally decided to take serious dancing lessons. “Right after the release of Love Aaj Kal, I’m going to be taking a full course,” he says.

Saif feels it’s about time he caught up with Kareena. “She’s very good at dancing. And it’s about time I pulled up my socks. I had to do 75 retakes for one step. I am just fed up of saying I’m a bad dancer and I need to do something about it now. Race 2 will have a couple of really groovy item songs. It is a weakness in my repertoire. “

dostana.jpg Section 377 of the IPC, which declared homosexuality to be illegal, has been repealed. Here is what Bollywood stars have to say

John Abraham: I think the right to personal choice is a fundamental right. Thank God the law against homosexuals has been repealed. Yes, I’ve a lot gay fans. Even if I hadn’t, I’d still be very happy if the gay community gets a voice and a choice. I’ve been brought up in liberal Parsi-Catholic household. I believe minorities don’t exist any longer. Every community (including homo- sexuals) has a majority voice.

Shatrughan Sinha: “Old rusty laws are like useless politicians. They should be thrown out. I’m glad Section 377 has been repealed. What two people do in the privacy of their bedroom is nobody’s business, certainly not the government’s.

Celina Jaitly: I’m overwhelmed. It’s a turning point in the history of human rights in the world’s largest democracy. It’s also a personal victory for me since I’ve been fighting for gay rights. Now they can walk with their heads held high. A new beginning.

Irrfan Khan: It’s a sign of a system adopting a viewpoint that indicates openness. This will rid the guilt that gays live with and stop police exploitation of the community. I played a gay character in Mira Nair’s short film directed by Zoya Akhtar. I researched on their anguish. It was terrifying.

Tarun Mansukhani: It’s a huge achievement and I’m proud to have been part of this movement through my film Dostana. The repeal of this outdated law gives homosexuals an identity and a legal recognition. Today they’ve the right to their freedom.

Kunal Kohli: Freedom of choice is very important in a democracy. That should not be cramped when it comes to sexual preferences. This is a progressive step by a progressive government.”

Neha Dhupia: I think it is great. We’re a free country. And the biggest freedom is the freedom of choice. I fully support the judgement. It’s a very progressive step.

Amrita Arora: It’s high time we treated gay couples like any normal heterosexual pair. I’ve a lot of gay friends and I’m very happy for them. In our society, legal acceptance is equivalent to social acceptance.

Neil Nitin Mukesh: Thank God people realised homosexuals are human beings with deep emotions and urges for which they were being punished for years. Now they can live peacefully without the law breathing down their necks. This change was long overdue.

Riya Sen: Most of my closest friends are homosexuals. I’m very happy for the gay community.

Subhash Ghai: I’m always receptive to the changing world and the truth about human nature being revealed. Since the inner truth is always more real than the social truth the reality within takes time to come out and be accepted by society.

Madhur Bhandarkar: I fully support the Delhi High Court’s decision. A progressive move.

Sonu Sood: Better late than never. It’s good to see our Constitution has finally grown. Everyone has the right to live and love the way he wants.

Upen Patel: I think it’s a great move forward by the government and for Indian society. Everyone should have the right to choose whom they want to be without the fear of being labelled a criminal.

Neetu Chandra: It’s a great move to understand and provide rights to those who were long denied the freedom to be themselves.

Purab Kohli: Super. It’s a giant step ahead in the image India is building globally.

Shekhar Kapoor: This should’ve been done long ago

Sushmita Sen: I always salute decisions that celebrate an individual’s right to choose. I could never understand any form of love or any kind of relationship being ‘criminal’. I’m very proud of the government for finally recognising that homosexuality can’t be judged.

Mugdha Godse: I welcome this decision with open arms. I’m happy a man now has as much right to love a man as he has the right to love a woman. Gays no longer need to hide their feelings. I’m happy for many of my friends.

katrina82Katrina Kaif is presently amongst the top paid actresses in Bollywood. She seems to have let all the glamour go to her head. Rumours are that she threw lot of tantrums while shooting for the ad shoot of a famous designer luxury brand. This brand approached Katrina few months back for their launch in India. She demanded and was paid a huge fee for the endorsement deal.

A source reveals “When the shooting began Katrina showed that the tough part was yet to come. Apparently, she was going to be flown to Paris for the shoot but Kat wasn’t happy with just that. She seems to have told them that she would shoot only in a certain hotel where she wanted to stay. And that was not all. She also wanted to work with her own staff, stylist, make-up artist, hair dresser et al who would have to be flown to Paris with her. When they protested, Kats threw a tantrum till they relented.”

amrita-rao-bikini1Amrita Rao who is all set for her release Short Kut says she has no one special in her life right now and wants to focus on her career.

I’m not getting married for the next 10 years. I don’t have anyone special in my life at the moment and my complete focus is on my new film ” Amrita told a leading news agency

The movie is all about Bollywood, where two strugglers are shown as a part of this industry. One makes it big as a superstar (Arshad) after stealing a script and the other (Akshaye) who continues to struggle as a director after his script gets stolen.

“I am playing an actress in the film. Neeraj Vora wanted to highlight the personal life of an actress through my character,” Amrita said.

The actress said that her bold avatar in the film was not a conscious decision.

“Everyone has been asking me whether I made a conscious decision to change my look. This is not the case. I haven’t sat and decided that I’m bored with one kind of role so give me something else. It’s just that I have got an opportunity to do different roles and I have moulded myself to suit the character,” she said.

“The same is the case with my character in this film. I wanted to do something different with the styling of this character and so the new look. Nothing more,” Amrita added.
