As news of rape charges against Shiney Ahuja comes to light, here’s a look at the darker side of our shining Bollywood stars.

Bad Boy #1: Sanjay Dutt. Illegal possession of arms purchased from gangsters. Spent 16 months in jail as an undertrial. Dutt was convicted and sentenced to six years rigorous imprisonment for illegally possessing three AK-56 rifles, a pistol and ammunition obtained from the Mumbai underworld and destroying the same. At the same time, Dutt was also “cleared of terrorism conspiracy charges in the blasts” related to the 1993 bombings. Dutt was granted bail by the Supreme Court.

Bad Boy #2: Salman Khan - arrested for rash, negligent and drunken driving. His car had collided into a bakery in Mumbai; one person who was sleeping on the sidewalk outside the bakery died and three others were injured in the mishap. Khan was also sentenced to one year in prison for hunting the Chinkara deer, an endangered species. Salman was convicted and given a five year jail term. Granted bail.
Salman also has a history of physical abuse. He beat up Somy Ali in a hotel and once threw a cold drink on her. Later Salman’s next girlfriend Aishwarya Rai accused him of physically abusing her. It is also said that once he slapped Katrina Kaif in his van.

Bad Boy #3: Rajesh Khanna - Yesteryear actress Amita’s 15-year-old daughter Sabiha accused Khanna of “molestation” on the sets of Anokha Rishta two decades ago. Though no case was filed, damage was done to Sabiha’s reputation. She was banished from Bollywood. Khanna’s then live-in girlfriend Tina Munim (now Ambani) packed her bags and walked out on Khanna. Sabiha surfaced some years later in a film starring Mr Khanna’s son-in-law Akshay.

Bad Boy #4: Nana Patekar. On the sets of Horn Please Patekar was accused by co-star Tanushree Data of incorrect behaviour during the filming of a song. She stormed out, and came right back. No case was filed. Though the movie got free publicity, it bombed at the boxoffice.

Bad Boy #5: Fardeen Khan. Caught red handed in 2001, for unlawful possession of cocaine in Juhu. Father Firoze Khan supported his son and gave interviews that poor sonny (who hardly had any acting assignments) had a lot of work related tensions.
Fardeen said that he was buying only 1 gramme of coke, while the cops are saying it was more like 9 grammes. 1 gramme entails just 6 months prison sentence and that too can be evaded by a slick lawyer. But 2 gm or more is equal to 10 yrs jail! Case is still pending in court. Fardeen’s career slid to a crawl after that.

Bad Boy #6: Pop singer Mika - accused of molesting actress Rakhi Sawant. In full view of the cameras Mika forcibly kisssed Rakhi on his birhday. Rakhi filed a case and Mika was booked under Sec 354 and Sec 323 of the IPC for outraging the modesty of a woman, later granted bail. Mika then went on to sing a song on the subject, Rakhi got loads of free publicity and appeared on every talk show including Karan Johar’s Coffee with Karan.

Bad Boy #7: Nadeem (of Nadeem-Shravan fame), accused of a role in the Gulshan Kumar murder, fled the country to London and never came back!

Bad Boy #8: Jackie Shroff- Film actor Farah Naaz accused Jackie and told a magazine that he acted “bad” with her younger sister Tabu who was in her teens at the time of the incident. However, Tabu said nothing and no case was filed. Tabu had a long run in the industry with award winning roles. Shroff nearly went backrupt and was bailed out by friends. Overweight and balding, he has nearly disappeared from the scene.

Bad Boy #9: Madhur Bhandarkar: He makes films with a social twist, but Madhur Bhandarkar is among those in Bollywood who have been charged with rape. Starlet Preeti Jain accused the award winning producer and director of repeatedly raping her after promising her a leading role in one of his films. “We had sex 16 times (she kept a count) and Madhur made promises of giving me a lead role in his films. However, he didn’t offer me a lead role in any of his movies. At times when I refused, he raped me,” she claimed.
Bhandarkar was booked by Mumbai Police on charges of rape and threatening murder Priti Jain was granted interim bail. Preeti Jain has surfaced again, following the Shiney revelation, and has spoken of how she would fight for justice “till the end”.

Bad Boy #10: Aditya Panscholi: The actor was accused of raping then girlfriend Pooja Bedi’s teenage domestic help. Pooja dumped him and Panscholi ran into the arms of a much older Zarina Wahab, who turned a blind eye to his roving eye as long as he came home. Decade later, Panscholi beat up new girlfriend Kangana Ranaut (his daughter’s age) in an auto. No case was ever filed. While Panscholi denied the whole incident, Kangana moved on. Accusations of money lending and borrowing followed.

Bad Boy #11: Anupam Kher: A film monthly once accused Anupam Kher of trying to molest actress Mamta Kulkarni’s sister.

Bad Boy #12: Shakti Kapoor - In 2005 a sting operation caught actor Shakti Kapoor demanding sex from a reporter in exchange of helping her build her career. No case filed.

Bad Boy #13: Anu Mallik - Singer Alisha Chinnai accused the music director of molestation. Later she teamed up several times with Malik including the reality show Indian Idol, after stating she would never work with him again. No case filed.

The list doesn’t end here - its endless. These are just the more famous cases. Then there are the B-grade cases - the Aman Varma sting, the Hemant Birje arrest and many more.

Kaizad Gustad is out of Ayesha Shroff’s life, professionally and personally; Hollywood director Alfredo De Villa to direct her next, starring Jackie

Ayesha Shroff (Jackie Shroff’s wife) and director Kaizad Gustad have parted ways. Buzz was Ayesha’s closeness with Kaizad was largely responsible for the rift between Jackie and Ayesha. Problems between Ayesha and Kaizad were brewing for a long time, and she has finally cut off all ties with Kaizad.”

Ayesha has produced two films, Boom (2003) and Bombil & Beatrice (2007) which were directed by Kaizad. But for her next film tentatively titled Rani, Ayesha has a different director in mind.

Apart from Ayesha having her own doubts about Kaizad’s abilities, Jackie was also pressurising her to get rid of him.

He was of the opinion that Ayesha working with Kaizad would bring nothing but trouble. So Ayesha has now approached Hollywood director Alfredo De Villa to take on her forthcoming project.

Our very own action hero Jackie Shroff, who made his debut in the hit flick Hero, has hardly any work on hand today. To tide things over Jackie had taken a loan of Rs 50 lakh from producer Sajid Nadiadwala. However, Jackie failed to pay back on time.

As a consequence, the loan multiplied to nearly Rs 1 crore on a given rate of interest. When Jackie tried to repay, his cheques bounced and Nadiadwala filed a case against Jackie.
Sajid started legal proceedings to obtain his money back. However due to the intervention of Salman Khan, the loan has been restructed.

Jackie went to Salman (Nadiadwala’s close friend) and explained his position to him. Salman immediately called up Nadiadwala and asked him to end the legal wrangle. Nadiadwala withdrew the case on Salman’s request. Moreoever, Jackie has also parted with most of his Sony shares. Jackie is well liked in the industry and nobody wants to see him in trouble, not even Nadiadwala.

It has also been rumoured that a ‘drug’ problem maybe the cause behind Jackie’s sudden financial crises. When a journalist approached Jackie about this, he responded by saying, “Oh, there is no financial crunch. I still have the Sony shares with me. But yes, I had taken a loan from Sajid. The loan was taken for my home-production Sandhya. Woh kuch distribution ka chakkar tha. Sajid will definitely get his money back when my film Sandhya releases. Meri woh picture (Sandhya) atak gayi hai.”
