bhansaliSanjay Leela Bhansali is known to be very secretive about his films’ script until they release. Going by these standards he has revealed nothing about his forthcoming film, Chenab Gandhi starring Vidya Balan. Recently, the filmmaker’s obsession to keep his film under wraps went a bit too far.
The incident happened when Bhansali was present for a photo shoot with Vidya Balan and Rajeev Khandelwal and Vidya’s manager and Boney Kapoor’s son, Arjun entered the sets.
Although Arjun had gone to the studios for some personal work, he decided to meet Bhansali when he heard that the filmmaker was there.

Much to Arjun’s embarrassment, Bhansali flew into a rage and immediately stopped the shoot as soon as he saw Arjun. Perhaps he feared that Arjun would discuss the look of his characters with outsiders. Bhansali also accused Vidya’s manager for the intrusion. The manager and Arjun tried to tell Bhansali that they hadn’t meant any harm and were there for a social visit but Bhansali refused to listen.

An appalled Arjun decided to leave before things got out of hand. Bhansali cooled down and resumed the shoot only after Arjun left. “Everyone present was shaken by Bhansali’s outburst,” said the eyewitness.

Actor Salman Khan and director Sanjay Leela Bhansali have had a long association back from the days of ‘Khamoshi’. But things change in the bad world of Bollywood.

Things were OK netween the two, when Salman came up with the idea of remaking the Hollywood movie ‘Prestige’ to Bhansali. But Bhansali quietly planned the film with Hrithik. Naturally Salman felt embittered. Salman has vowed since never to work with Bhansali in future.

Sallu had agreed to be a part of Saawariya with new comers Ranbir Kapoor and Sonam Kapoor only because of his old association (Khamoshi, Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam) with Bhansali. He even took out time to promote the film as the release date was clashing with Om Shanti Om that had Shahrukh Khan.

Salman feels he did a huge favor to Bhansali during Saawariya and this was not at all expected from him. Salman now feels cheated.

That Saawariya flopped is now history. There also was rumours that many of the daily wage labourers working on the sets of this film had not been given their daily compensation for the film.

Rani Mukerji has refused director Sanjay Leela Bhansali when he came to her with a cameo role in his upcoming film Chenab Gandhi.

Rani told him to forget the cameo role and give her Vidya Balan’s lead role!

Sanjay, who directed Rani in her critically most acclaimed performance so far in Black, was completely taken aback by Rani’s brashness. The two had last worked together in Saawariya (2007).

Chenab Gandhi is a Sanjay Leela Bhansali production to be directed by debutante director Vibhu Puri. It headlines Amitabh Bachchan, Harman Baweja and Vidya Balan.

Bhansali first tried to rope in Ranbir Kapoor and then Hrithik Roshan to play the lead role, but they both declined. Harman was finally roped in just days before his maiden film, Love Story 2050 released. So it hasn’t been an auspicious start for Bhansali.

For a small but a significant cameo part, Bhansali approached Rani. But when she heard the complete script narration from him, she told him she would love to be a part of his film but on one condition - that she plays the lead part!

Bhansali had already committed that part to Vidya Balan and there was no way he going to back out from that. Rani on the other hand was not interested in playing yet another Saawariya like cameo with a junior actress playing the lead, just to humor Bhansali. The way Bhansali sidelined her when promoting Saawariya still rankles with Rani.

Understandably, Bhansali was not amused by Rani’s turndown and left the meeting without uttering another word.

Rani also is desperate to team up with Shah Rukh Khan to make her comeback to Bollywood mainstream, and unfortunately Shah Rukh and Bhansali have been at loggerheads since the release date clash of Saawariya and Om Shanti Om in 2007.

Bhansali could not accept the failure of his film and what enraged him further were King Khan’s unwarranted critical comments on him and his film.

Now Sushmita Sen is being considered for the part.

Bhansali’s new film Chenab Gandhi, to be directed by assistant Vibhu Puri, has Amitabh playing a patriotic hero. However, Bhansali did ask Ranbir to play a role in the film. But Ranbir politely turned it down.

However, Bhansali denied that he had asked Ranbir to star in it. “I didn’t ask Ranbir to play a role in this film,” he said.

Why did Ranbir refuse Bhansali? Chenab Gandhi is a very serious film and there is not much of romance and songs in the film. Hence, the reason for Ranbir refusal.
